Military Equipment

We have been involved in the manufacture of military equipment since the early 1960's. The range of equipment produced covers turret gear drives, auxiliary power units, screened ignition systems and other miscellaneous parts and assemblies such as the AS90 recuperator piece parts and the Royal Ordnance 105mm light gun firing switch.

   Turret Gear Drives      
 

We have manufactured geardrives for all the post war MBT's - Centurion, Chieftain, Khalid and Challenger. For Challenger 2, we designed and developed a elevation gear drive with low backlash and high stiffness to help ensure that the gun is as accurate as possible.

The picture in the centre shows the elevation gear drive for Challenger 2, now in service with the British and Oman Armies. The unit includes an overload clutch, limit switches, emergency hand drive all contained in a lightweight aluminum casting and steel fabrication.

   APU's      
 


We support with spares and repairs the AS90 APU. This unit was originally designed and developed by a former sister company - Bradley Electronics. The APU has a three cylinder diesel engine driving twin generators and a small hydraulic fan.

The unit also includes a crew heater system. We have recently designed a umilical startup kit to enable the crew to run the engine at the rear of the vehicle for diagnostic checks.

A similar unit is used on the Warrior 2000 IFV, but with an automatic start and control system.

We have previously been involved with the support for the H30 APU. We retain the capability to manufacture the complex alluminum cast engine casings but otherwise no longer support this engine due to a lack of spares requirements.

 

 
   
   

 

   Screened Ignitions      
 

We manufacture a range of screened ignition systems, starter, wiper & fan motors for Fitted For Radio (FFR) commercial vehicles. These suppression systems offer a cost effective alternative to a fully suppressed assembly which often results in the selection of an aerospace type approval and high cost of parts.
