Al Hussein Hydrogas Suspension System

M60 Hydrogas Suspension System (shown on the KADDB stand)

Launched at SOFEX 2004 was the Hydrogas suspension upgrade for the Jordanian M60 MBT’s.

The M60 suspension upgrade consists of the proven Hydrogas pneumatic spring and hydraulic damper system from the Al Hussein (Challenger) MBT. The hydropneumatic assembly is fixed to a cast steel housing, which fits to the M60’s “boat shaped” hull, and bolts onto the existing suspension mountings.

Horstman is already under contract from JAF for a suspension repair and overhaul facility for the Al Hussein program. Horstman has been working with the JAF Engineering team at the King Hussein Main Workshops (KHMW) to ensure that all the necessary tools, spares, know-how and training is in place to enable JAF to repair and overhaul the Al Hussein Hydrogas suspension.

InArm suspension for FCS/FRES Tracked Vehicle Solution

M109 and D26 Lockout Hydrostrut suspension

To support our growing US customer base and to meet the future US military requirement for lighter and faster vehicles, we exhibited for the first time at AUSA in Washington DC.

Interest in our range of proven Hydropneumatic suspension suspension systems was considerable especially regarding the InArm suspension unit currently fitted to NLOS-C demonstrator.

The InArm suspension is a super-lightweight high performance suspension designed to meet the requirements of lightweight, C130 air portable tracked vehicles.

   DSEI - London 2003

International Defence Exhibition held at the Excel Center in London, England during early September.

Our stand was part of the UK defence manufacturers pavilion and close the the British Army demonstration area.

On show was the TRACER InArm suspension wheel station, the M777 road arm arrangement and the M109 and D26 Hydrostrut systems.

There was a great deal of interest in the suspension solutions and the news that Horstman had been awarded the contract by Patria for the Polish AMV requirement for 690 vehicles.

   SOFEX 2002

As part of the long term support for Al Hussein (Challenger 1) in Jordan, we formed part of the large UK pavilion at SOFEX in Amman in October.

Key visitors to the Horstman stand were, His Royal Highness King Abdullah II, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal, for the United Kingdom Prince Andrew Duke of York, Defence Minister Lord (Willy) Bach of Lutterworth, General Khalid Jamoka and many distinguished visitors from Jordanian Armed Forces.

One of our more unusual visitors was a Bedouin Border Guard.

   EUROSATORY 2002

In summer we were at Eurosatory in Paris. This was held for the first time in the Parc des Exhibitions and proved very successful for us.

   Bovington Army Camp

In October, we arranged a visit for our local MP, Don Foster and Paul Keetch, who is the Liberal Democrats spokesperson for defence to visit Bovington Army Camp.

They were briefed on our military products, the support we get from the Royal Armoured Corps Export Support team and the work undertaken by the Armoured Trials and Development unit at Bovington.

Both MP's were able to experience the ride quality of a Hydrogas suspension system at first hand on a Challenger 2 MBT.

   CAFS Course

Each year we co-host the Combat Armoured Fighting Systems course from Shrivenham, this year with William Cook Defence.

The day is split into product presentations and a factory tour. The purpose of the visit is to enable the course members to gain an insight into the workings of a defence manufacturing contractor and our products.

Sadly this was the last CAFS course under the current arrangement, but we have offered to support the replacement course in the same way.
